Ivey Connects

Ivey Connects is a student led initiative run across all HBA1 sections to promote social responsibility, community involvement, and impact. Each HBA1 section is paired with a charity or non-profit and given the opportunity to learn more about the organisation’s mission, values, and impact on the greater London community with which students operate.

Habitat for Humanity

“A Habitat home is a stabilizing force for a family. Better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development and the ability — and financial flexibility — to make forward-looking choices. No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent life. We deserve to feel strength and stability day after day. We deserve to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures. At Habitat for Humanity, this is what unites us. Through shelter, we empower. Our shared vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Because you, me, we — we’re all humans. And every single one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future. A Habitat home is a strong foundation for a family, an opportunity on which they can build a better life. Strong and stable homes help build strong and stable communities.”

Make-a-Wish

“Make-A-Wish Canada is an independently operating affiliate of Make-A-Wish international. We create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, and we are on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, operating in 50 countries. Here in Canada, we serve children in every community from coast to coast to coast. Since 1983, Make-A-Wish Canada has granted over 37,000 wishes across the country, over 1,000 last year alone.”

London Therapy Dogs

“The St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program reaches out to thousands of people across Canada on a daily basis bringing comfort, joy and companionship to members of the community who are sick, lonely, reside in long-term care and mental health facilities; are in hospitals, schools and library settings. Program participants reap the therapeutic benefits of the unconditional companionship of a four-legged friend.”

Boys & Girls Club of London

“BGC London is a community organization that provides activities for children and youth whenever school is out, and during the day for older adults 55 and over. Our program services are planned to provide fun with a purpose where children and youth enjoy a safe place of their own. Many of our members get involved and benefit from the development opportunities, working to build leadership skills and gain practical work experience. The Club offers hope, inspiration, and opportunities to help people reach their full potential. By promoting physical health, mental health, and emotional well-being, our programs help young people succeed in school, form positive relationships and mature into healthy, responsible and caring adults. We are committed to helping children and youth reach their full potential.”

Anova

“At Anova, we believe an inclusive world of shared power where everyone lives freely without fear of violence is possible. We are working to create change to eliminate patriarchal patterns that result in gender-based sexual violence and inequality. We are the product of a merger between London’s Women’s Community House and Sexual Assault Centre London to provide improved services to our community. Anova provides safe places, shelter, support, counseling, and resources for abused women, their children, and all oppressed individuals to find a new start. All of the services available through Women’s Community House and Sexual Assault Centre London are still available with improvements, including improved accessibility, streamlined service, more service options at our four sites, improved services for children, enhanced sexual violence and prevention work for youth, and an integrated 24-hour crisis and support line. We believe a future without violence is possible.”

London Cross-Cultural Learner Centre

“The London Cross Cultural Learner Centre (CCLC) was founded in 1960 by a group of global villagers from Western University with the desire to share their cross-cultural experiences from the Third World with those at home in Canada. In 1968, the global education centre was opened as a pilot project to train volunteers on cultural diversity. As globalization began to take hold, many newcomers came to London to find a new and better life. The CCLC evolved and became London’s leading newcomer resettlement agency. Today, the CCLC is a registered charity with close to 100 employees. Our extensive experience is focused on helping Government Assisted Refugees, Refugee Claimants, and other vulnerable newcomers settle, integrate, and succeed in the London community. We address their immediate needs as well as foster long-term community engagement through a wide range of activities.”
